"How to Raise Growth in the Euro Area?" The EU Parliamentary Committee on Economic and Monetary Affairs hosted a special conference with representatives of the National Parliaments of the 25 member states of the EU on February 21, in Brussels, on the topic of "How to Raise Growth in the Euro Area". Mr. Rifkin joined Mr. Jean Philippe Cotis, Chief Economist for the OECD and Mr. Jean-Claude Trichet, President of the European Central Bank, in a wide-ranging discussion on how to stimulate more sustainable economic growth in the European Union. Rifkin focused on the need to integrate the logistical infrastructure of Europe with the creation of an integrated power and communication grid and the phasing in of a new hydrogen energy infrastructure, propelled by renewable forms of energy. Mr. Rifkin called on the parliamentarians to mobilize public support behind a third industrial revolution and the ushering in of a hydrogen economy in Europe. |
