Mr. Rifkin
participated in the closing plenary session of the 6th European
Business Summit, an annual summit organized in close cooperation with the
European Commission and the EU presidency. The theme of the summit focused
on how Europe can turn the “carbon challenge” into a business opportunity,
providing a new source of energy to stimulate growth and create jobs.
The Summit was attended by members of the European Commission, including
José Manuel Barroso, president of the European Commission, Günter Verheugen,
European Commissioner for Enterprise and Industry, and Jacques Barrot,
Commissioner for Transport, as well as chief officers of leading European
Fortune 500 companies and civil society organizations.
