Keynote Address and Participation in "Energy Challenge" Debate with European Commissioner for Competition, Neelie Kroes, and EU Energy Commissioner, Andris Piebalgs

On September 2, 2006, Mr. Rifkin was invited to deliver a keynote address for the Intelligence 2006 Global Congress held at the historic Villa d’Este in Cernobbio, Italy.   Mr. Rifkin joined European Commissioner for Competition, Neelie Kroes, and EU Energy Commissioner Andris Piebalgs, for an Energy Challenge Roundtable, to discuss climate change and the global energy crisis.   

Other prominent guests at the event included Romano Prodi, Prime Minister of Italy, Dominique de Villepin, Prime Minister of France, Shimon Peres, Deputy Prime Minister of Israel, Mahmoud Abbas, President of the Palestinian National Authority, Vaclav Klaus, President of the Czech Republic,  Janez Drnovsek, President of Slovenia, Jose Maria Anzar, former Prime Minister of Spain,  Joaquin Almunia, European Commissioner for Economic and Monetary Affairs, Peter Mandelson, European Commissioner for Trade, Peter Sutherland, Chairman of British Petroleum and Goldman Sachs International, Jean-Claude Trichet, President of the European Central Bank, US Senators John McCain, Lindsey Graham, and Mel Martinez, Professor Charles Kupchan, Director of Europe Studies at the Council of Foreign Relations, and Jagdish Bhagwati, Professor of economics at Columbia University.
